my icee today is really good and gives me great headache. production continues. $850 for one year of festival rights for the music, a further $850 for the internet rights... <gulp!> unfortunately i will just need to bite the bullet. i think the music is imperative to this picture. i will probably go ahead and start principal animation tonight after doing some quick musical timing. i did not want to do this yet because i was expecting it to be like $1500 per license. it's still a lot of money, but less so then i expected... we're going to go ahead with it. not like i have to license it now anyway. it's not a musical, but it's kind of fantasia-esque in that the picture lines up a lot with the music. shhh, don't tell anyone... the animation stand is basically finished and now we're just waiting for ed to send it out. he's editing a great big video so all the boys and girls can build their own. sadly for them they will never own an original ed-built stand. i await hearing their lamentations

seven seems to be a reoccuring number here. i got a new wall clock and mat for the studio today, just so that the landlord doesn't think some rundown sack of shit is renting this place (which he is.) drove a lot today and got some more CDs from the library... im very tired. the animation stand continues to be built. hopefully we'll have it soon. falling asleep as i type this. gujhhhh

antsy, antsy, oh god am i antsy... i might need to find a second thing to work on while i wait for the music stuff to be sorted out for "bolero", because im sure once that is figured out i will cry and my wallet will resemble a sad, empty little vessel. i suppose the soundtrack isn't mission critical, but its quite long and if i animate over it only to find out that its crippilingly expensive then it will be another long journey for different music, different rights, and lots and lots of editing and redrawing. egads. i think tomorrow i will go try to shop for cds for musicians ive never heard of

here is some production stuff from "bolero" while i figure out the music situation...
here's to hoping that i can sort everything out with the master/sync license, because the music i have in mind is perfect... hopefully

hi friends. work continues on "bolero" as i try to figure out act III... i believe it to have a strong act I and II at the moment but i think i'd rather have another pair of eyes scan it over. i've just contacted sony to try to clear the rights for the music the entire film revolves around before i animate around it. there's only one scene that does not use this music thus far so i can't really do a lot of animation until i get a "yay" or "nay". so a lot of writing.
i went to the local library for the first time in a while yesterday, but needed to get a replacement card. the lady at the front desk needed some ID, but my driver's license is currently flowing through the post, so i told her i only had my interim license, insurance and a state photo ID. that seemed to work out after 10 minutes... and then i was told that a year ago, i had returned kubrick's "dr strangelove" with a disc missing. i know for a fact that i did not do that, because my DVD player was broken upon taking the discs home, so i didn't even open up the case. 20 minutes later... they find out that oh, its actually here... not that big a deal i just wanted to complain. i did end up borrowing a great recording of tchaikovsky's 1st & 2nd piano concerto, and a piece i hadn't heard before, schubert's ninth symphony. i don't know if my shitty wal-mart CD player does it justice but i thought the first movement was gorgeous.
i also bought a fireproof safe yesterday for the to-be-photographed artwork for "bolero"...it's not big enough for the animation paper, so i have to put it in a bag and let it crease a bit away from the picture area, which is working okay for me right now. i think this is both fireproof and waterproof, which is great, because the whole reason i got it is because i spilled water on a stack of animation paper a while ago, not realizing that it was a scene. it would've been a loss either way but that is definitely a greater loss. so... yea
